The Atlanta Regional Commission has made a major April announcement by selecting the Laona M. Kitchen Foundation to receive additional funding from the ARC.
“After careful consideration and review, the Laona M. Kitchen Foundation has been selected for the award,” said the ARC’s Caregiver Program Specialist Mary Lou Vergara.
The LMK Foundation has been approved for funding to assist 280 families with $500 respite care vouchers for the 14 month period May 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016. Gary Kitchen, President of The LMK Foundation, shared his excitement of the new opportunities that the new ARC funding represents:
“We decided to start The Laona M. Kitchen Foundation to help families with respite care so that we can give caregivers a break. If someone is caregiving for a parent, aunt, uncle, husband, or wife, it is 24/7 and it is extremely difficult. We provide respite vouchers for these families so the caregiver can take a short-term break.”
With this additional funding, LMK can expand current respite opportunities, service new families, and provide true “Alzheimer’s Relief” to hundreds more families in the Atlanta area.
Though LMK will continue to assist all families in need of Alzheimer’s support, the new funding from the Atlanta Regional Commission will solely support families in the counties support by the Atlanta Regional Commission. “With these new funds,” explains Kitchen, “we are seeking to assist an additional 4-5 families a week for the next 14 months in the Atlanta area.”
